The National Film and Television School is the UK's national centre of excellence for postgraduate education. Our students are a talented, diverse, creative and enthusiastic bunch, making around a hundred productions a year under the guidance of tutors who are leaders in their own specialist fields.
At the NFTS, you’ll learn in purpose-built studios that include two film stages, a separate large television studio and post production facilities rivalling those of many professional companies. All of our facilities are furnished with new generation equipment equivalent to that used at the highest level in today's Industry, so that you can get to grips with the tools you’ll use in your future career. Our tutors are some of the UK's most accomplished film and television programme makers and because we have a high tutor to student ratio we can respond flexibly to your own particular needs.
Practice and more practice is the key to creative and technical mastery and at the NFTS you'll learn by making films and television programmes - lots of them! All productions are funded by the School and we train students to work to professional standards. On major productions, you’ll collaborate with students from other departments from initial concept right through to post production. As a result, when you graduate you’ll not only have professional skills in your own field but also a good understanding of the other key roles involved in bringing a new film or television programme to the screen.
You’ll want to hit the ground running when you leave the School and our Bridges to the Industry programme includes a number of development deals with broadcasters and independent production companies to help our new graduates establish themselves. We also arrange screenings for the UK Industry and distribute many of our students’ films to festivals and major competitions across the globe, vital measures to help raise your profile as you take your first steps in your career.
The NFTS has turned out numerous world-class, award-winning film and television programme makers in its 37 years and our reputation extends worldwide. A Skillset Screen Academy since 2005, we became a Skillset Screen & Media Academy in November 2007, one of a select group of institutions recognised by Skillset as providing the highest standard of vocational education, training and skills development for film and television - an endorsement seconded by the UK film and television industry. Whether graduating with an MA, a Diploma or from one of our short courses, you’ll leave having received the best practical education and training in film and television programme-making available in the UK.
