This training course provides an overview of how to determine market size, growth and share, as well as project and forecast where it's going - or at least likely to go. It's part art, and (increasingly) part science!
Ukie has teamed up with the Chartered Institute of Marketing to create this brand new course. It has been designed specifically for people working in the fast moving games industry and related markets and is suitable both for game developers and publishers.
This workshop provides an overview of how to determine market size, growth and share, as well as project and forecast where it's going - or at least likely to go. It's part art, and (increasingly) part science!
Outline of the day:
The critical importance of good forecasting and the implications of getting it right, wrong or somewhere in between
A look at some classic games industry forecasts – optimistic, pessimistic and, of course, realistic
An overview of the key professional – and practical! – forecasting tools and techniques, some of which are ‘subjective’, opinion-based, others of which are ‘objective’ and data/information-based
‘Hands on’ forecasting using both heads and hands with the latter mainly on keyboard and/or mouse using Microsoft Excel®

Is this course right for me?
The workshop would be of interest to anyone who is actively involved in the preparation and evaluation of market and/or sales forecasts e.g. marketing, sales and/or product managers, game developers and/or publishers, etc.
Please note this is a hands on course using Excel and you will need to provide your own PC with Excel.
As forecasting specifically – and marketing generally – is becoming much more data driven, this workshop should appeal to the more quantitatively- oriented folk out there, and because the workshop is centred on a number of Excel® spreadsheets (free take-away, by the way!), it will be particularly useful to those with reasonable skills/proficiency in this area i.e. you’re pretty comfortable with the 5 or 10% of potential functionality that the vast majority of people actually use!
