Ukie is back from a brilliant gamescom
The corgis are back in the kennels, the bunting has been folded for another year, and the Ukie team are back on British soil following a fantastic week at gamescom 2015!
As Partner Country this year, it was our biggest gamescom yet, with more than 50 companies - members and non-members - joining us to exhibit on the biggest country stand at the expo. Over the three days, we welcomed over 2,500 guests to the stand.
The week began with the Ukie team and our brilliant student volunteers, handpicked from our Student Membership Scheme, Nick Pinkney, Kai McGilligan Oliver and Natalie Martin, covering the UK stand with all things royal, and our exhibitors arriving to set up for their week of meetings. We were welcomed by Polystream who brought fabulous royal cupcakes as well as some beer mats to keep our stand clean and tidy!
Making this year’s gamescom extra special was the fact that the UK was official country partner of the show, so we opened the stand with a joint press conference between UKTI and Ukie on Wednesday, with our own Dr Jo Twist and Ian Livingstone speaking at our new Royal Box presentation area.
The Royal Box was really popular over the three days, with a great turnout for a variety of seminars, which covered UK tax credits for games, Investments, and introductions and advice to those trying to break into the industry. Koei Tecmo, Wired Productions and Team 17 also drew in crowds with announcements of their upcoming projects.
Following long days of meetings, we had a couple of fantastic networking events on Wednesday and Thursday, with our exhibitors inviting their guests each day to join the stand for a beer. Huge thanks to UKTI Germany and Korea, Dovetail Games and Multiplay for sponsoring the Pimms and cocktails and all the beer we got through over the two days! And a massive thank you to Amiqus also for sponsoring the coffee, and Pole to Win and Global Step for the treats that kept everyone going through each day on the stand. Unity Technologies also provided some very special custom royal portraits which were displayed in the red carpet reception area.
Finally, the Green Man Gaming UK Game of the Show was another highlight on the stand, with the lovely team from Robo Pixel Games winning the accolade for their upcoming game Gunnihilation. Elliot and James were also interviewed on BBC Radio 1 earlier in the week, which you can catch here, so huge congratulations to them for a massively successful gamescom!
