Labour London Mayoral candidate Khan meets London's games industry
Labour's candidate for the 2016 London Mayoral elections, Sadiq Khan MP, visited the offices of Sports Interactive, the maker of Football Manager and one the UK's largest video game studios as part of a Tech City tour including Tech City UK, digital services provider Optimity and Makers Academy.
With 30% of the UK games industry is located in the capital, the next London Mayor will be an important player for the future growth of the industry. During the visit, Khan re-stated his aim to be the most 'pro-business' Mayor of London ever.
Ukie CEO Dr. Jo Twist and Sports Interactive Studio Director Miles Jacobson OBE outlined the needs of the games industry and the challenges of affordable workspace and talent shortages which could make London less competitive over the next decade unless there is leadership from City Hall.
Already Ukie works closely with the existing Mayor and the London Enterprise Partnership on digital skills. Film London Interactive and Ukie are also working on a major new GLA-backed initiative for next year that will promote London as a world leading destination to make and sell games, delivering a programme of activity that will benefit the wider UK games industry.
