Ukie submission on skilled immigration rules
The government recently asked the Migration Advisory Committee, a semi-independent board of experts, to come up with ways to reduce skilled immigration into the UK. They are holding a consultation over the summer, which Ukie will be fully engaged in. They were also asked to give some initial thoughts on whether the salary thresholds for tier 2 visas (those for skilled immigrants) should be raised, and what impact this would have.

The Government's Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) – a semi-independent body set up to advise on immigration policy – is considering several new measures to bring net migration under 100,000 annually, as proposed in Conservative manifestos. The proposals are focused on the Tier 2 general visa, which enables UK businesses to employ skilled migrants from outside of the European Economic Area.
New government's programme announced
Action on red tape, immigration, childcare and personal taxation has been announced today in the Queen’s Speech.
The speech, which marked the formal opening of the new Parliament and sets out the new Conservative government’s agenda for the next year, included some fundamental reforms that will affect all UK businesses, including those in the games industry.
