British Companies generate £8m on the UK stand at gamescom

Fifty-three UK companies exhibited this year on the UK industry stand at the biggest gamescom yet, generating a staggering £8m worth of actual business and £26m of potential business across the three days of the expo. More than 2,500 visitors flocked to the UK industry stand, including VIPs, key industry players from global development and publishing studios, as well as Susan Speller, the UK’s Consul General in Düsseldorf.

The businesses attending this year as part of the UK collective, all helped there by Ukie, were supported financially by UK government’s Trade and Investment department (UKTI) grants totalling £27,000. The UK industry stand, which this year sported a British seaside theme, also played host to a variety of networking activities alongside the business meetings, including a drinks reception sponsored by Multiplay as well as a reception sponsored by the UKTI and the presentation of the UK Game of the Show award, sponsored by Liverpool-based business Atomicom, and presented by journalist and Chair of the judging panel Will Freeman. The award went to Team 17 and Mouldy Toof studio’s upcoming game “The Escapists”.
