New Guides for Social Media launched by UKCCIS
The UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) has launched two new guides to keeping children safe online. UKCCIS is a group of more than 200 organisations from across government, industry, law, academia and charity sectors, working in partnership to help keep children safe online. Ukie sits on the Council to represent the games industry so that a balanced and informed approach is taken.
Child Safety Online gives practical advice to providers of social media and interactive services - including games - on how to provide the right tools and resource so that children can play safely. Ukie members looking to include any chat or social features in their games may find this guide helpful to understand best practice and where to find more advice.
The second guide is aimed at helping parents and carers so that they know how to make sure their children have a fun safe time playing games and using social media more generally. It includes tips on how to understand the risks that children may need to deal with online, as well as how to minimise risks. Further information for parents about children's online safety can be found on our askaboutgames site.
We consulted our MarComms and Community sub groups for contributions to the guide, which has been made with developers in mind.
