AWS re/Start

AWS re/Start youth programme is an intensive, 12-week course which focuses on the repeated practice of technical skills – including Linux, Python and core AWS services – integrated with the soft skills, that characterise the best performers. The curriculum is based on observations from 120 hours of shadowing across multiple AWS customers and partners and designed in collaboration between AWS and Generation, a global youth employment social enterprise. At the end of the programme, AWS customers and partners interview the graduates for permanent positions in their organisations, accessing a reliable source of highly trained, diverse talent to support and enable growth.

The first cohort of 20 young people started the programme in London in March and graduated in May – pictured below. They were selected from an applicant pool of 350 in a recruitment process delivered across a range of channels in partnership with the Prince’s Trust. They are 90% ethnic minorities, 35% female, none are in full-time education or training and yet all are highly motivated and driven to pursue careers in cloud technology. After graduating, they gained access to life-changing careers with over 70% of them receiving full-time offers within a month with companies including the FT, Cancer Research UK, Daemon Solutions, Infinity Works, Direct Line Group and more. Since this cohort we have launched another cohort in London and expanded to Manchester in September.

We are always looking for employer partners to talk to about the programme interested in accessing this type of talent to fill challenging junior vacancies.
