Ukie's key asks for the General Election

The UK game industry has been an incredible success story over the past decade. We deliver economic growth and high skilled jobs across the country. Our industry is a unique combination of artistic creativity and groundbreaking technology and is central to the continued success of the UK’s creative industries.

It has been Ukie’s mission to make the UK the best place to make, sell and play games – and we want to work with the Government to ensure the conditions are in place to continue this success and overcome the challenges we face as an industry.

The UK will only remain a world-leader for the video games industry if we have the right business and regulatory environment – combined with a talented and innovative workforce.

Key asks

In order to ensure that the UK remains a global hub for the video games industry, the next Government should:

  • Commit to competitive tax reliefs for our video games sector to ensure the UK remains an attractive place to start a games business and invest in creative content.
  • Prepare young minds for the workplace of the future through the introduction of a Digital Creativity GCSE to better develop digital skills
  • Renew and increase the UK Games Fund to £30 million over the next three years to nurture industry growth and a diverse range of creative content for a global audience.
  • Globally the video games industry is set to be worth £200bn by 2025 – more than the film and recorded music sectors combined. Without support for sustainable growth the UK is at risk of losing out to European and International competitors. The next government has a unique opportunity to champion the industry and supercharge its growth.
