Meet the Ukie team: Sam Collins

What do you do at Ukie?

I am responsible for recruiting members and ensuring they get access to the products and services that they need. I also lead on our International Trade Programme and esports work

What made you want to work in the games industry?

Whilst at University in Amsterdam I worked as a Producer in a games company for work experience. When I completed my degree I helped set up a UK office for the same company and have never looked back. So, not so much a ‘want’ to work in the games industry. It started out of necessity but I’ve loved every minute of it.

What are you playing at the moment?

I love strategy games and perennially play Football Manager (managing BHA of course) and Front Office (NFL manager). I am also playing a lot of Flutter and Stick Cricket on mobile and No Man’s Sky and Rainbow Six Siege on PC.

What do you do in your spare time, apart from playing games?

I am an avid Lepidopterist, contributing regularly to forums with identification and undertaking population studies. I am also a qualified cricket coach and, as well as playing every weekend, I also manage and coach a women’s cricket team. I also co-lead on a campaign on sustainability and emissions reduction for cricket clubs across the UK. Looking after my two children is also pretty time consuming.

Do you have a pet? (Show us a picture!) If not, what pet would you like to have one day?

I am not a pet person to be honest. I came home from work one day a few years ago and my children had ‘inherited’ a tortoise from a family friend. Named Speedy (of course) he is incredibly aggressive and will bite anything (birds, cats, people) that dares to enter his space (which is my entire garden). Despite this, I love him.
