María Sayans Appointed as New Ukie Chair

Ukie, the trade body for the UK games and interactive entertainment industry, is pleased to announce the appointment of María Sayans, CEO of ustwo games, as the new Chair of Ukie’s Board. Maria takes on the role as Ukie continues to drive forward its supercharged vision, championing the growth, sustainability, and inclusivity of the UK games industry.

María brings extensive leadership experience in the games industry, having supported teams at ustwo games through the development of critically acclaimed titles while championing progressive industry values.

She succeeds Thomas Hegarty in the role and will work closely with the Ukie team and Board to guide the organisation’s strategic direction. We thank Tom for dedicated leadership and contribution during his time as Chair. Tom will continue as a member of the Board for the remainder of his tenure.

Continuing in his role as Vice Chair, Li Ma (Principal International Partnerships) will provide stability and continuity in Ukie’s mission to support the UK games industry.

Commenting on her appointment, María Sayans said:

“I’m honoured to take on the role of Chair at such an important moment for Ukie and the wider UK games industry. With a bold, supercharged vision for the future, Ukie is in a strong position to drive positive change, support our members, and champion the industry on a global stage. I look forward to working with the Board and the team to build on this momentum.”

Nick Poole, Ukie CEO said:

“María’s talent for bringing people together will be invaluable as we continue working towards a UK games industry that’s not just globally competitive but also fair, sustainable, and full of opportunity for all. I also want to extend a huge thank you to our outgoing Chair, Thomas Hegarty, for his dedication and impact, his leadership has helped shape Ukie’s strategy, and we’re pleased he’ll continue serving on the Board. With Maria stepping into the role, Ukie remains focused on championing policies that drive growth, investment, and innovation across the sector. This is an exciting new chapter, and we’re looking forward to what’s ahead.”

As part of ongoing efforts to ensure Ukie’s leadership is representative and inclusive, an EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) subgroup has been established to review and enhance the board nomination process. This initiative will be led by Nina Adams (Studio Director at Auroch Digital), further reinforcing Ukie’s commitment to fostering an industry that is open and accessible to all.

Additionally, Ukie’s flagship diversity and inclusion initiative, Raise The Game, is set to relaunch at Members Day on 4th March, steered under the leadership of Samantha Ebelthite (CEO, Amplified Games). This next phase will build on the programme’s success in creating meaningful change across the industry.
